NYCityPets came across an interesting Craigslist post recently.
The skinny: a designer for pooch clothing has a foundation to educate dog owners about the importance of blood screenings for dogs (since many diseases and problems can be detected early-on with blood testing). This designer, KellyMichael, wants you to make a work of art out of the Poochtee logo. If you win, the prize is $1,000 and your work will be shown in New York Dog Magazine during Pet Fashion Week.
For details and some examples of previous incarnations of the logo, go here.
From Craigslist:
…Who benefit from this?
Poochtee Love Foundation and other Foundation and artists benefit from the silent auction which will be display at Much Love Event (www.muchlove.org), Sliver Spoon Dog and Baby Buffet (www.silverspoonem.com), Pet Fashion Week (www.petfashionweek.com) and many more. That is why artists are welcome to submit artworks for FREE.

From Zum Schneider, comes a French Bulldog with a penchant for beernuts!
Let’s hope this dog-friendly watering hole will stick around and avoid eviction!
Note: Call and make sure your pooch is allowed before trying to take her to any bar/restaurant! NYCityPets will not be held responsible for any dog-related bar brawls.
(Thanks to Mosurades, for the photos.)

The Mayor’s Alliance for Animals hosted another adoption event this past Sunday in Queens. Kittens and puppies took over a little piece of Astoria Park and the number of visitors was encouraging to those who kicked off the event.
The next Adoption Event will take place on Sunday, June 25th in the Bronx near Van Cortlandt House Museum.

What do you get when you cross a sighthound with a non-sighthound? Answer: a Lurcher.
Meet Lurchers: sighthound crosses (usually Greyhounds with Collies or Terriers) that originated in Europe and maintain their popularity there. Lurchers were bred by Romany Gypsies at a time when only the nobility were owners of purebred sighthounds, such as Greyhounds. These dogs are strong and can excel in both hunting and herding.
The Lurcher is not commonly found in the US, and NYCityPets could only find 6 listed on Dogster (including these great dogs, Darby and Duke the Lurcher).
Do you have a Lurcher? Tell us what you love about your special (sight)hound.

A Long Island bulldog, called Duke, is sitting on Death Row until it is determined whether or not he deserves a second chance in a new home.
Duke was involved in an attack on a 4-year-old boy (along with two Rottweilers), but people are coming to his defense because English Bulldogs are not known for their aggression or pack mentality.
Denise Flaim of Newsday.com has been covering the story and she tells people if they want to show support:
Long Island Bulldog Rescue is asking Duke’s supporters to attend the Hempstead Town Board meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m. at Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion, adjacent to Hempstead Town Hall, 1 Washington Street, Hempstead.
They are also accepting donations for Duke’s legal fund at www.longislandbulldogrescue.org.(LINK)

As you may have heard, Vivi disappeared in February from JFK Airport just after the Westminster Dog Show. Yes, she is still running around in Queens and people are still searching for her.
If you want to follow where she’s been sited, go here.
The best thing you can do to help is tell people that you know in Queens to keep a copy of this poster and to spread the word.
