Gowanus Lounge writes about sitings of a pig being walked on a leash in Park Slope.
In any case, we noticed on the Park Slope Forum that people are discussing a pig that has been spotted being walked down Seventh Avenue on a leash. The first report was posted on Monday and there have been a number of follow ups. Does this mean that Park Slope has its own pet pig? Or is it Emmett, the somewhat famous Fort Greene pig, about whom much has been written?
We wonder, are pigs the new dogs in Brooklyn?

Over 132 people already know this fact: Schnauzermania is happening in NYC!
![]()
You can find Schnauzers on their own television channel.
There are Schnauzers meeting for playgroup twice a month through their own Meetup.com group. (2nd Sundays at the Washington Square Park big dog run and 3rd Sundays at the 72nd and Riverside Drive’s small dog run)
We even met a white schnauzer just the other day. Naturally, we mistook this cute puppy for a West Highland Terrier, but it was confirmed by the veterinarian that schnauzers do come in white.
Want to join in the madness with your schnauzer-type dog? Then sign up for the NYC Schnauzer meetup group.
Here is the information on their next event from Corris and Roxie:

The BARC Parade and Dog Show was out of this world!
So many adorable pups and adoring fans came out to celebrate this community of canines, to hear some fun music, and to eat food (and beg for treats). We thank BARC for the fun time and the excellent contests: Best Kisser, Sweetest Temperament of the Gruffest Dog, Cutest Butt, Best Costume. We can’t wait until next year!

Having recently helped rescue some kittens begotten by our local deli cat, bodega cats are clearly close to our hearts. We look forward to following the Bodega cats series by Clinton Hill Blog, which started today with Sancocho.
a “sancocho”, in case you were wondering, is a meat-heavy stew that is the national dish of the dominican republic. the bodega owner’s daughter told me that her dad likes to name their cats after food. works for me! (in my family we gave all our cats names that started with the letter m….) she calls him “ocho” for short, and says that he has a loyal following among their customers, some of whom have even brought him presents.

Jeanette is one lucky girl.
She has the most loving family,
including a fabulous Dad who finds the time
to write mysteries and still walk his dog
four times a day, and a wonderful Mom who
works tirelessly to find homes
for other cats and dogs here in NYC.
Just look at that fabulous cat house she’s sporting!

St. Nicholas Park in Harlem is having a fundraiser for the dog run (a work in progress).
The Steuben Day Parade (German-American) marches through midtown this Saturday with some Dobermans strutting their stuff in memory of Captain A.J. Haggerty.
Animal Care & Control will be at Happy Paws (316 Lafayette Street) to adopt out some fabulous pets from 12-4 on Sunday.
Finally, AKC’s Responsible Dog Ownership Day takes place in Madison Square Park on Saturday from 11-4.
We’d go for the $25.00 microchipping, and the Meet the Breeds part, but we’ll be out of the city this weekend. If you make it to any of these events, let us know about it. If we missed any pet-related fun, add it to the comments. Have a good weekend!

Bebe the Bichon Frise is the first dog to receive a protection order against a person. This person is a dog-beater and, therefore, deserves a protection order placed upon him for all pets.
Over at Harlem Fur, St. Nicholas Park gets a dog run, Cimbi enjoys play dates, and Chris tells us to keep an eye out for the lost cat near 118th Street and Lenox.

Lucky you, for living in a city that boasts dog trainers who want to make your pet a star and advertising agencies that specialize in animals for advertising!
You could attend one of Bash Dibra’s Make Your Pet A Star workshops (although it is hard to tell when and where these workshops take place via the website). You could also check out his book, Star Pet, and make your pet a star-DIY style.![]()
There are a few agencies that might think your kitty has what it takes to sell cat food, or better yet, cattails for FTD or 1-800-Flowers. Perhaps your dog really loves her cushy bed and would look good in a Drs. Foster & Smith catalog, or in a sprinkler commercial during the dog days of summer…
From our research, however, you probably need to know someone at a company in need of a pet for their photo spreads (like our friend Maggie the Golden Retriever and her owner, Michael), but if you want to be proactive about employing your pet, try Animals for Advertising, Inc. or All Creatures Great & Small.

(Note: Be certain your pet is well behaved, as these agencies are wary of pets they don’t know).
Let NYCityPets know if you have any luck with animal advertising in any capacity…we need the pooch to kick in and pay a little for all those stuffed toys she destroys in milliseconds!
