The Times is doing more for pit bulls than they might realize with this article. Having a picture of a woman with a pit bull, as well as the article being about two women who are fighting to keep their pups, seems to be a step in the right direction toward making the terriers less macho.
If the dogs are not seen as macho, they might not become such a common not-so-well-thought-out accessory for street guys who want to look tough.
I see so many pit bulls in the 110th Street animal shelter. I am guessing this is due to guys getting the dogs thinking it will make them look gangsta, but never investing the time to find out how much attention and dedication is required to properly raise a dog. So, they end up in the pound.
If pit bulls can be seen as a pet women like, guys might go back to the regular means of boosting thug appeal: baggy jeans and Tims.
Now, if only we can get the street community to read the Times.
