Stray from the Heart is a rescue organization based on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
You can read their blog here. Or you can talk to Beth and other dedicated volunteers on any given weekend evening outside of the West 68th Street Loews movie theater. They are probably at Loews right now telling people about the plight of the homeless animals in NYC.
One of the dogs currently with SFTH is a hound mix (that we completely fell in love with) named B’Easy. He hails from the N’Orleans area and has come to NYC to get a fresh start.
Another of SFTH’s dogs is Tiger, the mastiff, chow/shepherd mix. We came upon Tiger in Central Park a few weeks ago while on an afternoon stroll. Tiger has his own running partner, a woman from Europe who wants a dog, but she lives in a not-dog-friendly building.
Did Tiger realize he is a celebrity because we recognized him from the SFTH webpage? Probably not, since he’d rather walk in the park than surf the web!

We love design. We also love pets. Here are a few examples of where we can have fun with both:

The Claw, Nap, and Pounce by Unica Home are fun for a modern home.

Or a DIY Catpole, like this one shown on Apartment Therapy (made by Patricia). (See more designs from AT here.)

A German company, Cat Interiors, really knows how to show off your cat’s stylish side.

Here is an amazing custom Hollow Log Tree. We’re not sure if this cat tree would fit in any NYC apartment, but here’s to dreaming!

Tuesday’s court proceedings have caught the attention of the media and many more people are now talking about the future of the 9-9 off leash hours in NYC parks.
Time Out New York has dedicated their weekly poll to the issue, asking the question:
A controversy in a Queens Park has the New York dog world barking. Should off-leash hours in parks be curbed citywide?
a. Yes, dogs should be leashed at all times in city parks.
b. No, it’s vital for dogs to have some time to run wild.
To vote, go to timeoutnewyork.com/poll. Replies must be received by 10am on Tuesday, September 5. Results will be published in TONY572.
This morning, even the morning alarm clock (set to NPR), was reporting the news about off-leash hours to us. This makes it difficult not to be a little concerned for the welfare of our doggie friends.
