In honor of this being the month of June, we want you to meet this lovely, 5-year-old husky girl. She currently calls an animal hospital in Queens her home, but living in a medical facility doesn’t sound very fun. Luckily, June has a friend named Glenn who takes her out for walks while he volunteers for the Husky House.
You can learn more about adopting June by checking out the Husky House MySpace page and if you can’t get enough cuteness, check out her Flickr pages Here and Here.

Nat Hendricks, resident of Boerum Hill, showed his gallery of cell phone photos at the Atlantic Artwalk this past weekend. What a fun idea, and of course it was the dog photo that drew people in to have a peek. Thanks for sharing, Nat.

On June 4th, the Humane Society and Mighty Mutts received the proceeds from a comedy event called Sit, Stay, and Stand-Up!.
Another comedy event was held on May 23rd to benefit Smiling Pit Bull Rescue and Paws All Around called Funny For Fido. (As mentioned in the NY Post)
This marriage of comedy and dog rescue couldn’t be any more appropriate, because as with both, you need an open heart and mind to truly appreciate what you are getting.
Let’s hope for more canine-related comedy to come!

Sophie needs a little help getting back on her feet. She was once in a loving family, but really needs a new place with outdoor space for her to frolick and go where Mother Nature intended for a cat to go. And you know what we mean by go, right?

The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test puts you and your dog to the challenge. Your dog’s manners and your stick-to-it-iveness are on the line as you go through the 10 test items from accepting a friendly stranger to supervised separation (from owner).
The AKC administers the test and provides information on how to train for a passing grade.
If you haven’t heard of CGC before, but you have a dog at home, it may not be a bad idea for you to give the test a try and see just how good a citizen your dog has become.
The NYC Dog Fun & Events meetup group is hosting a CGC testing day on June 6th and all the proceeds go to the Animal Haven shelter. If you miss the signup for this date, there are more listed in NY state on the AKC website.
If your dog passes the CGC test, then you could possibly go further to the Good Dog Foundation (of Brooklyn) where they certify dog-human teams for pet-assisted therapy.
Not only would you know that you have a good dog, but the whole world would know it too.
