Would You Like to Meet My Neighbors?

Feral cat in gardenAs soon as I saw this cat in the NY Daily News, I recognized him. He’s my neighbor, Clarence. We live a few doors down from the community garden that he and another cat, named Betty, call home. They both have a caretaker, but many of the gardeners are not pleased with the intrusion of the garden-loving cats. Many community garden plots are rented and used for growing herbs and vegetables, but a cat toilet they are not. I hope everyone finds a happy compromise in this situation. We enjoy saying hello to Clarence and Betty on a daily basis.

Neighbor CatHere is my other neighbor. She is a very smart and friendly cat who knows to steer clear when the dog is sniffing around. She is pictured on my doorstep, after I called her over to say hello. You can tell she is a cool, confident one.

Feral neighbors

Finally, here are some old neighbors that only stayed a short time. I am nearly certain that the Mom cat you see in my blurry photo here is the same cat who is cared for by the Empty Cages Collective. The photos show the same cat to me. I was all too happy to see the photo because I offered to trap and care for these cats, but the plan never came to fruition. I am glad to know there are several groups of people working to care for the cats of Brooklyn.

Porkchop and ApplesauceMeet two delicious kitten sisters known as Porkchop and Applesauce. These little tigers are looking for a home. They were found stray in a backyard with their mom, who has since gone home to live with their rescuer.
Because they have had a lot of friends to teach them why people are so great, Porkchop and Applesauce are very well socialized. These girls love other cats and playing together. They are as sweet as pie and really love to be cuddled.
Do you have room for another helping of fun after Thanksgiving? Email to learn more about our Porkchop and Applesauce.

Sweet Pea: Shop Cat Affectionate Sweet Pea Sweet Pea resides in a friendly shop in the flower district (a few blocks on 28th Street around 6th Avenue).
He is very sweet, like his name implies, and he made buying wedding flowers all the more fun.

(Sorry for the blurry photo, here is a better one taken by Anniebee.)

Subway Kitten

SubwayKittenThis blurry photo from today was taken tonight in the Times Square station. The orange and white kitten is just weeks old. The man is sitting at the base of a staircase with a hat for collecting money.

Do you pay the man and get the kitten to a safe, warm home? Or will he just show up with a new kitten tomorrow? Grr.

Or train your cat to use the toilet: CitiKitty.com Don’t believe that a toilet-trained cat will help you land that perfect apartment in NYC, however…

Broker: This is not a pet-friendly property.
Girl: Does it matter if my cat is toilet-trained?
Broker: I don’t understand.
Girl: My cat doesn’t have a litter box. It uses the toilet. Does that help?
Broker: I am not sure if that makes a difference. How did you do it?
Girl: I used a training kit. CitiKitty.
Broker: It might impress the owner, but I am not sure it makes a difference. Does your cat flush?
Girl: It will if that helps me get the apartment.

But beware, your cat might start obsessing over the swirling toilet bowl.

So which one would work better for your kitty?

Bodega Cats, the Series

SanchochoHaving recently helped rescue some kittens begotten by our local deli cat, bodega cats are clearly close to our hearts. We look forward to following the Bodega cats series by Clinton Hill Blog, which started today with Sancocho.

a “sancocho”, in case you were wondering, is a meat-heavy stew that is the national dish of the dominican republic. the bodega owner’s daughter told me that her dad likes to name their cats after food. works for me! (in my family we gave all our cats names that started with the letter m….) she calls him “ocho” for short, and says that he has a loyal following among their customers, some of whom have even brought him presents.

We love design. We also love pets. Here are a few examples of where we can have fun with both:

The Claw, Nap, and Pounce by Unica Home are fun for a modern home.

A German company, Cat Interiors, really knows how to show off your cat’s stylish side.

Here is an amazing custom Hollow Log Tree. We’re not sure if this cat tree would fit in any NYC apartment, but here’s to dreaming!

Cats with Jobs

ShopCat is a site about working cats. They have a New York page with a few NYC cats, including Miss Duane Reade and Candy from Bagel Baron.

Since we know a few cats that work really hard to entertain people in the waiting room, NYCitypets will be sending in some submissions to ShopCat.
We think Zorro and Annie definitely belong on ShopCat!
