NYCityPets Contest: Blockbuster Cat

Posted by Lizz on 08/05/2006
Categories: Adopt Me, Curious Cats

We here at NYCityPets are involved in many ways with pets. We petsit, volunteer for homeless pets, work with pets professionally, care for our own pets and we blog about pets. In short, we love pets and understand that situations arise where people need help to find another loving home for their beloved pets.

This love of pets is why we hate the man we have named New York City’s own Biggest Coward of the Day.
Biggest Coward

Thanks to his actions today, we are announcing the Blockbuster Cat Contest.

Blockbuster Cat Contest

But first, the back story:

This man is moving from NYC in less than one week. Today he was unable to find a home for his cat after his only only efforts were to try his local pet store and a random nearby veterinary hospital to see what options were available. After he received a list of all the NYC shelters and rescue groups and some email contact information, the man said: “I don’t believe in computers. None of these shelters are near here either.”
He left in frustration and went into the nearby Blockbuster Video store. He then set the cat cage on the floor, opened it and walked out of the store.

To us, he is now known as the Biggest Coward of New York City for August 4th, 2006.

Our Blockbuster Cat Contest is as follows: If you are in NYC and are looking to adopt a calm, sweet cat that deserves much more than to be abandoned, then email NYCityPets. We will provide free cat sitting for a year should you need to leave this cat for vacations or business travel. We’ll also give you a new carrier and bestow upon you the honor of Hero of the Day of New York City.

Meow Mix HouseThe Real World plus Survivor plus a cat rescue home=the Meow Mix House.
The house is at 425 Madison Avenue in NYC, but you’ll have to catch it on Animal Planet.
Gothamist had a chance to visit the house before taping ended and NYCityPets hopes to catch a glimpse of the show, despite our lack of cable tv.

Destination: Sunshine State

NYCityPets apologizes for the past week’s silence. We were on the road to visit the Sunshine State and to transport a fine fellow named Cow from an NYC rescue to his new farm home in FL. Back to regularly scheduled pet talk after some photos of Cow in his new blue heaven.

Where are the NYC cat websites?
In Brooklyn, there is a Cat Meetup Here.
In Harlem, there are cats outside going for walks, says HarlemFur.
Outside of the Museum of Natural History, you can find this cat:
But where is UrbanKitty (and we do not mean this one) hiding? Or NYCat?
If you know, send NYCityPets the link!
