AT LogoAt ApartmentTherapy.com, July was pet month. (Oops, sorry we missed it! We are still catching up on our reading!). AT listed adoptable pets from Petfinder all through July.

Postmodern PetsThey had a Pet Decor contest, and they told us about Petholica-the NYC pet newsletter and Postmodern Pets-a shop “for design-savvy pets and their people”.

Gothamist LogoOn Gothamist: The Animal Care & Control audit is a little depressing, but we can attest that here in NYC people are conscious of the issue and are working to do a better job for the animals.

Our Kittenpile was mentioned at Gothamist this month and there is a post about finding a good veterinarian in the city that includes some helpful comments.

On Flickr, Darvey the Pom has a cute tribute page. (Thanks to Atlantisa7 for the photo!):

Jon, from San Francisco, blogs about all the dogs he sees tied outside in the city. We aren’t thrilled about the idea, as we think it is scary to leave a dog alone out on a sidewalk.

If you think tick-borne diseases only affect dogs, think again: bobcat’s disease recently killed this Oklahoma cat.

My Cat’s Got Knees is a great ode to cats, probably even the greatest. (Video link)

Urbanhound Goes Tri-Coastal

The indispensable NYC dog-lover’s resource urbanhound has gone tri-coastal with new sites serving San Francisco and Chicago. When NYCityPets moved to NYC, we found urbanhound’s list and description of dog runs to be particularly useful in determining where to live. Now our left- and third-coast friends can enjoy the well maintained directory.

Thanks to tonight’s rainstorm, NYCityPets discovered that the people at the Weather Channel must be pet lovers because they have a section of Weather.com dedicated to information for pet owners. Some highlights:
*Personal PetCasts
*A calculator to tell you how far and fast you need to travel to burn calories on a dog walk
*Pet Weather Maps
*Photo pages where your pet could be featured as the Daily Dog or Cat

In NYC, dog park groups spread the campaign to file complaints with 311 about the Juniper Park lawsuit against off-leash hours.

New Yorkers for Companion Animals
(NYCA) needs your support to continue their work while caring for their current foster group of 35 cats and 8 dogs. Check out their blog, Tales & Tails of New York. That name sounds so familiar.

In Troy (not NYC, but it hits home), thanks to the City Council, judges no longer have jurisdiction over dogs that attack people or pets. Euthanasia will be mandatory.
Oddly, the animal control van was set on fire three days later.
