In case you really want to indulge with your pooch today, go ahead and get some Happy Tail Ale or Kwispelbier (non-alcoholic pooch brews). Otherwise, just give him a carrot and he’ll be just as happy!

English Springer Spaniels are wonderful dogs with lots of energy and love to give to all members of the family. James the ESS won best in show at the Westminster Dog Show last night.
He’s quite handsome, and we congratulate him for it!

If you are a concerned dog run user and/or you want to play a larger part in the creation of dog-friendly communities, you should check out the upcoming National Dog Conference. It is only a short trip out of the city, so you will be back in time for d-i-n-n-e-r for the pooch. Well don’t you have to spell that word too? (Click images to download PDFs)

February is I Love NYC Pets month! The ASPCA kicked off the month with a charm school competition that featured some talented adoptable pets.
The Center for Animal Care & Control has reduced adoption prices (see flyer) and launched the month with tv appearances and many adoption events (way to go all you hardy, winter-bearing volunteers!)
How can you join in the celebration?
-Stop by the Stone Creek Bar & Lounge tomorrow night because 10% of register sales will be donated to AC&C
(Details: Time-6 pm onward, Location-140 E. 27th St., btw. Lex and 3rd Ave.)
-Visit any of the Commerce Bank adoption events this weekend:
Saturday, February 10, 2007:
COMMERCE BANK @ 1091 3rd Avenue at 64th St.
COMMERCE BANK @ 210-212 Prospect Park SW in Brooklyn
Sunday, February 11, 2007:
COMMERCE BANK @ 1504 3rd Avenue at 85th St.
COMMERCE BANK @ 211 Montague Street in Brooklyn
(All events run from 12 pm-4 pm)
-Spend some with your own pets who probably hate this cold weather as much as you do!
-Donate towels and blankets to pet shelters
-Or volunteer your talents to any of the agencies working so hard to save the lives of homeless pets.
Dancing for Animals

Learn some moves on the dance floor, help animals in need, and the price is better than cover at a swanky club or broadway show. Seriously, go shake your moneymaker.

Mulchfest 2007: Fancy Up Your Dog Run

Imagine it. An unseasonably warm January. A soft, squishy, muddy dog run.
Mmm, muddy paws!
So to give a little back to your dog run for being a great place to take the dogs, we love the idea of taking your finished up Christmas trees over to Mulchfest for recycling into free dog-run mud-prevention. Of course, you will have to bring a few bags with you and haul them over to the dog run, but your carpet or furniture (and family members) will love you for it!
Mulchfest runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 am - 2 pm in various city parks. Click the logo for exact locations.
Event: Gingerbread Homes for Animals

Rational Animal is teaming up with the ASPCA to bring the 4th annual Gingerbread Homes for Animals event to Chelsea Market. The gingerbread homes are on display now through December 17th.
Last year, when this event took place in Central Park, the gingerbread homes were amazing. Pastry chefs from all over the city do an elaborate job to help educate about animals in NYC. While many of the animals featured on the gingerbread homes are not the kind you would take home as pets (wildlife was a large part of last year’s event), there will be opportunities to learn more about the plight of homeless pets in NYC too.
For more photos, check out the Flickr page!
(Hours: M-F 10-6, Sat 10-8, Sun 10-6. Here is how to get to Chelsea Market, in case you are not a foodie.)
