Rex is a seven-year-old African Gray Parrot. He travels around in a carrier (this is why the photo is grainy). I came across Rex while at a local coffee shop in Brooklyn. He made the most piercing sound while waiting in line, similar to my overly-sensitive smoke alarm at home. Rex was very interested in being photographed, but didn’t want to wait very long for an espresso.

These photos are related. The first photo is a reaction to what you see in the second one. Why does age 8 bring newfound wisdom in this dog? Years ago, no matter the weather, she’d have run out into muck and bounced around. She is wiser now. No more cold muck.

When we spotted little Mika in Prospect Park today, there was something extra special about her. Who would have known she’s already had a little internet fame via Daily Puppy?! Even if we are a little late to introduce her to the world, it was nice to meet Mika nonetheless.

Sweet Phoebe was rescued from a construction site as a tiny kitten under a year ago. She’s happy, healthy, and things couldn’t be better! And her favorite toy is still a ball of paper (or a paper bag as you can see). Who knew all of that playing with paper would make such an impression.

Meet two Jack Russell Terriers with (surprise, surprise) enough energy to power a small vehicle with just their tails. They like to grab their leashes and play tug while walking through the corridors of the building. Grr!

Penny is a one-of-a-kind dog. She is a rust-brown colored schipperke. Nearly all of the dogs of this breed are jet black in color, so this was a cool thing to see. Penny is a very sweet and polite dog on the street and a pleasure to meet.

Fiona had the same look on her face as many others at the too popular LES Pickle Day on Sunday. A word of advice to the picklers: extend your fest a lot longer than one single block! We love pickles, but we need room in which to eat them.
