News FLASH Flood! Nine Brooklyn Monsoon kittens rescued!
June 2006
Six-week-old kittens found living behind steel doors, under a soggy, leaky cardboard roof (very a la Greenpoint), with limited eating-out options and lack of human love! Seeking warm housing with proper kitten food instead of catching Brooklyn worms, since they are 5 inches long and scary.
View pix: Here
Interests and activities include: Lots of mewing, chowing down, creating one-of-a-kind-cat-hair-covered slippers, and kneading and reading your palm (Prediction: you will be an ecstatic kitten parent!)
They had weepy eyes due to being outdoors but all went to the vet to receive eye ointment and have almost made a full recovery already! Moms tested negative for FELV/FIV and the vet said they’re very healthy! Have been treated with Advantage and are flea-free.
(If you are interested in these kittens, please email the Cat-Lady-in-Training).
(Thanks, Laura Brahm for the tip. Photo from Kodak Gallery.com.)

The best thing you can do to help is tell people that you know in Queens to keep a copy of this poster and to spread the word.

Adopting a Pet in NYC
Posted by Lizz on 03/26/2006
Categories: Petfinding
The situation for homeless pets in NYC is changing. Pets that find their way to the shelter system are more likely to make it out alive than 20 years ago. The Mayor’s Alliance for Animals has been inacting change for nearly 4 years to decrease euthanasia rates for treatable and healthy pets in the city.
If you are interested in adopting a pet in NYC, you have a plethora of options. If you want to go to the front lines and save a pet straight from the shelter, go to the Center for Animal Care & Control (CACC).
If you want to find a pet with a compelling life story, then get comfortable at home and cozy up to Petfinder.org or BigApplePets.org where you can search online for any kind of pet: tall, small, fuzzy, purebred, mutt, or a bundle of personality (aka diva). One thing all of these pets have in common is that all will be grateful by your gift of a warm, loving home.
If you want a specific breed of cat, dog, or rabbit, then find your way to the specific breed rescue: New York Breed Rescue Network (NYBRN).
Remember to check with your veterinarian also when looking for a new pet because many veterinarians know of pets that need homes.
