2009? Now What?

Rolling A great deal of change has happened since the last post on this site.
One thing hasn’t changed: Pets are still the best!
I’ve moved on from working with the people side of pet medicine to spending more time with my own dog and helping a cat rescue to grow and prosper.

Honey is definitely happier with the arrangement, as am I. She gets more treats all day long. She digs in the snow in the few daylight hours we have this time of year. She rolls in the grass when she can get away with it.

The cat rescue has been moving right along since I joined as the only employee. We’ve recruited volunteers, adopted most of our cats, and started to get more organized. It makes me wonder how many rescue organizations avoid implementing systems to measure success and make informed decisions. I am participating in the HSU online course Measuring Effectiveness for the next couple of weeks.
Honey will be celebrating her 9th birthday on February 20th.

Here’s to 2009, and to you the readers: May you be fortunate enough to happily spend time with your pets.
Now let us all learn from the rolling dog. Do what you love. Even if it makes you a stinker.

We’re Sorry (well, maybe not Honey)

Honey's PleaDear Readers,
Many thanks to you for keeping an eye on NYCityPets.
This has been an eventful season for pets here in the city. Sadly, we have not been around to tell you all about it! I’ve been playing catch-up in other parts of life: getting married, attending funerals, meeting new babies, and taking on more responsibility at work. Honey has been busy too: playing fetch with the Squeaky, getting her first dental cleaning and tooth extraction, keeping up with vermin in and out of the house, and enjoying time with the dog walkers!

I hope that I can bring you a new page design and a lot more pet news soon, but we are going to take it one day at a time around here.

So for this week, I am going to get back into telling you what we (Honey the spaniel and I, and sometimes Scott) see and hear about pets in NYC by starting with a couple of topics that hit very close to home: international travel for pets, cat adoptions, and as always, more pet stories.

Sincerely,
Lizz and Honey
